According to the new guideline of UGC, all the offline exams held in May were canceled. UGC has instructed universities not to conduct offline exams in May 2023.
University Grants Commission has provided some new guidelines for all the examinations that are being conducted by the UGC, and also all the university examinations. According to it, all the offline examinations that were to be held in the month of May 2023, will be canceled due to the worsening pandemic situation all over India. The notice is available on the official website of UGC, that is, ugc.ac.in.
The University Grants Commission in its letter to various colleges and universities also stressed the fact that in this situation of the Covid-19 pandemic being at high, the thing which is more important is the safety and health of an individual.
Further, the online examinations will take place only if the concerned universities will make sure that they are fully ready in all respects and will strictly adhere to the various guidelines that are issued by the State Governments, the Ministry of Education, the Central Government, and the UGC.
The new UGC exam guidelines:
The new guidelines by UGC are as follows-
- It has been directed by the Education Ministry that all the institutions that are centrally-funded such as, the IITs, the IIITs, the NITs, the Central Universities, etc. must not conduct the offline examinations in the month of May 2023.
- In the 1st week of June 2023, the decisions that are related to the examinations will again be reviewed by the Commission.
- Any kind of physical gathering must be avoided as much as possible in campuses all the time.
The notice that was released by UGC states that, keeping in view the current situation of the Covid-19, it has been requested that the higher education institutions might keep offline examinations in abeyance during the May month for avoiding the physical gatherings at various campuses and also to give much needed relief to the students, staff and faculty.
The Education Ministry’s directions were for the centrally-funded institutions only, but the advisory that are given by the UGC will be valid for all universities that comes under UGC, which includes the various private and state-run universities.
Various universities have postponed their offline examinations already due to the increasing cases of Covid-19, for the students who are undergoing undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
